Istanbul, Turkey, June 2013 (Left-wing, nationalist anti-imperialist group participates in the Gezi Park protests, a nationwide movement of demonstrations against perceived authoritarian actions by Turkey's government)
This ongoing project investigates two of my deeply engrained, and at times, conflicting personal feelings: the need for independence and the need for belonging. In documenting moments that are in some way analogous to these two poles, I hope to explore my own psychic state, as well as external intersections and tensions between the individual soul, group identities and dynamics, and nature. The disparate images are edited and sequenced to form a narrative unfolding over an imagined individual's lifespan.
The images in this chapter of the narrative are unposed captures made between 2013 and 2018 in the U.S., Turkey, and Georgia.
